Be Charitable

Making the world a better place by being charitable may sound obvious but I am looking to focus the efforts and the whole point of these blog posts is how anyone can make the world a better place no matter their situation. If you have unlimited money and resources then please share this article and continue to donate as you see fit and don’t forget to check out some of the unique gifts we offer on this website.

Remember the spirit that this is meant. This is how anyone, no matter what their socio-economic status, can make the world a better place.

If you have limited time and money then it would be best to go local. Do your homework and find the best local charity and put those limited resources to work helping people near you. By going local you would be helping real people in your neighborhood. You would be pooling resources with others in your community to make a difference. Also, it is easier to check out a local charity and verify that the charity is legit. Avoid the large faceless organization that purports to help nameless and faceless people across the globe. Let the rich and powerful throw money at mega churches or huge organizations that report that less than 10% of donations go to real people.
Be charitable to yourself. I believe, without being selfish, charity does start at home. Take the time to look inward and concentrate on improving yourself. Learn a new skill that could get you a raise at work or help you find a better paying job. Start a business. Exercise. Learn a language. Personal growth can be fulfilling and not only improves your own situation but adds to what you can contribute to society at large.  At the very least you avoid becoming a burden. Should you be trying to save the world if you can not save yourself?
There are other things you can do besides volunteering your time or donating money to help a local charity. Sharing their posts on social media and attending events they are sponsoring helps immensely. It costs nothing and you are probably wasting time on social media anyway so might as well put some of that time to good use.
Personally, I try my best to support Shirley’s Way. I have met the CEO and some of the cancer victims that they support. In my opinion, Shirley’s Way is the best charity in Louisville, KY. If you would like to find out more about Shriley’s Way you can check out their website at www.shirleysway.org. Being charitable will make the world a better place.
