I noticed an added bonus on my way to another grand beer adventure in search of the very best craft beer at Versailles Brewing Company. I had forgotten the beauty of the rolling hills in Kentucky. It was a relaxing drive for a change. I am usually too excited thinking about beer to enjoy the scenery, but this was an exception. The scenic drive is a bonus when on the way out of Louisville to visit VBC. I’m sure in the spring with the hills alive with new growth it is a sight to behold. Sounds like a good reason to start planning a visit to bourbon and horse racing country to have a beer. Especially considering the destination is with one of the OG’s of craft beer. Mark Phipps, head brewery and part owner, has been in the business of creating craft beer for 48 years. I had the distinct pleasure to meet with part of his young and up and coming team of beer brewing badasses. The future of craft beer is in the capable hands of Mitch Pace and Desiree Carlon. Check out the video below to meet them. Be sure to subscribe so you won’t miss the next beer adventure.
At the time of my visit, Versailles Brewing Company had twelve beers on tap with a handful of those being from other breweries such as West Six and Country Boy. They call themselves a craft beer bar so they are all about good beer. We started the interview with a Hell Yes Lager. As you would expect, the lager was clear and crisp and had a light, abrupt finish. It is the beer that every beer lover can appreciate. It is the perfect beer to introduce to the first-time visitor. The Prince Madoc Blonde Ale was next, and it was a real treat. Flavorful with vanilla notes and a hint of buttery toast which I may have missed had it not been pointed out. It was complex which leads me to believe that I could find something new to appreciate in each glass. On a side note, I was told to do a search for the name, Prince Madoc. It is an interesting tale, possibly tall, worth a read here.

I have to thank the crew at VBC for being so nice. It was a great visit and I look forward to visiting again someday soon. Mark was gracious and I really appreciate that he took the time to meet with me and show me around. He has built a solid crew and was quick to mention how important they were to his own and the breweries success. He also mentioned that he had two talented bartenders. It is a window into his character that he is quick to share credit with his team. I would have loved to stay longer, and I look forward to visiting again. To the crew at VBC, “ZIVELI!”
